The basics to bring
- Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing for about a week
- Travel-size toiletries, ideally alcohol-free
- Any prescribed medications in their original, labeled packaging
- Insurance card and a photo ID
- A small number of personal comfort items, such as photos or a journal
- A list of important phone numbers in case you cannot access your phone
What to leave at home
Most programs limit items that interfere with safety or focus. That commonly includes alcohol-based products, anything sharp or unapproved, and large amounts of cash or valuables. Phone and electronics policies vary by program, so it is worth asking rather than assuming.
When in doubt, ask
Every facility has its own guidelines, and the admissions team would much rather answer a question in advance than have you arrive unsure. A quick call removes the guesswork so the first day is about settling in, not sorting logistics.
Common questions
Can families call on behalf of a loved one?
Yes. Families often make the first call. Our confidential admissions team can help you understand options and possible next steps, even before your loved one is ready to talk.
What happens when I call admissions?
A confidential admissions team member listens, helps you understand your situation, explains detox and residential options, can help verify insurance, and outlines possible next steps - without pressure.
